Why does my toddler love being naked so much? Why does she take off her clothes, every chance she gets? Is she trying to drive me insane? Or is it a stress release thing?
Example: she comes home from school, says hi to me, starts playing with a few toys, wants to watch Dora or Spongebob on TV before dinner. Once she starts watching her preferred show, she wants to take her clothes off. If I don’t help her, it doesn’t matter – she takes them off all by herself. Then she likes to sit around in her diaper, socks, and shoes, watching TV. Occasionally she’ll also remove the socks and shoes.
I find myself wondering if she does this at daycare. I don’t think she does, or the teachers would have mentioned it to us. Right? So maybe she saves up her impulses for nakedness until she gets home, and then lets it all hang out. I wonder if this behavior will continue as the weather gets colder? At what point will she realize that sometimes she will, in fact, be more comfortable with clothes on than off?
Of course sometimes she just takes her clothes off because she’s pissed off. This usually happens at naptime or at bedtime, when she’s not in the mood to sleep yet. I’ll frequently come in to check on her and find her stark naked, blissfully asleep in her crib, her clothes and diaper on the floor, flung across the room in a fit of rage. Lucky for me, in this state it’s easy to get a diaper back on her without waking her up – once she’s out, she’s really out and sleeps like a log. And I have to put a diaper back on her, or else she’ll wet the bed – she’s only two, for crying out loud. I usually don’t even try to put pajamas back on though – instead I just cover her with a blanket and leave it at that. I curse the day she figured out how to take off her own diaper!
Maybe diapers will be a thing of the past soon. She is pretty enthusiastic about potty training. In fact, she asks to go to the potty constantly. About 50% of the time, absolutely nothing happens. The other 50% of the time, she pees a tiny little bit. But she really enjoys the whole ritual – especially the part where she gets to take off her pants and her pull-up or diaper. And be naked. AGAIN.
